Positive Parenting
It's not impossible...
It IS intentional.

Parenting is tough. Positive parenting is tougher.
It's not easy to learn positive parenting skills -- good parenting skills that make a positive impact. It takes time, and a lot of effort. Another way to look at it is positive parenting with a plan. It can be hard, but it's important. If you think about it, for each child, you only get one chance.
You will lead, guide, push, support, facilitate, redirect. You will shape. Do it well.
The Flip Side:
The Lack of Positive Parenting
Have you ever seen parents:
angry with their kids more than happy?
talking at them versus with them?
treating them as children instead of young adults - in - training?
pointing out things they've done wrong versus finding what they've done right?
yelling to communicate?
letting the children do what they want and get what they want, appeasing them to avoid conflict?
Doing nothing with their kids--not parenting well, not bad parenting, just not actually parenting? (which really IS bad parenting!)
overwhelmed and needing to have a glass of wine to unwind from having to deal with the kids? (Have a glass of wine for a better reason than to escape your children!)
I don't want my kids to remember me like this. What's more, it's not just how they'll remember me; it's how it will make THEM who they are.

So...
Parent with purpose. Decide on positive parenting with a plan.
I made a decision to be the best parent I could be, and to hopefully get most of it right the first time around -- the ONLY time around for each child. Since you're reading this, I'm guessing you have, too.
Oh, I make plenty of mistakes...daily, and wish I had take - backs and do - overs. But I've learned a lot and I'm better equipped now than I otherwise would be.
And...I'm parenting with a plan.
Positive parenting can make the journey for the parent much more rewarding, and a lot smoother for everyone. And shouldn't you enjoy the journey?
Everyone thinks they are good parents. Almost everyone I meet really wants to be. Well, if everyone is good at it, why do so many people get so stressed around their kids? Why are some kids so difficult for other adults to be around?
This site is a little different than other parenting websites. A lot of it came about through what I've learned in training courses. Much of it is from personal experiences. It's all about getting children from cradle to adulthood as smoothly as possible, setting the children up to be prepared for life.
It includes information from grace based parenting to parenting styles. (Do you know the difference between the authoritarian parenting style and the authoritative parenting style? Do you know what parenting style YOU use?) It includes topics like teaching children about nutrition and teaching children about manners. There's a page on kids swimwear. It even covers some "best of"s, like the best sunscreen to use for kids, the best kids vacations, and the best dog breed for children!
Often, the site covers cause and effect in parenting, things I've learned over time with help from a variety of resources, including family, other parents, and some more formal resources. (The formal resources I think are most helpful, I mention at different points on different pages.)
There are ALSO helpful points from visitors who've added to the blog. Please add your own! Go to the "YOUR STORIES" tab on the left side of this page.
The thoughts and information you find here aren't meant to take the place of therapy or other professional help with child-rearing, and you also might not agree with me at times. My goal is just to get the conversation going. I'd love it to be the reason why parents put just a little more thought into this role we've been blessed with...
...and ultimately become better equipped for positive parenting with purpose!
